The flag means we come to you.

On a fabrication drawing every weld is called out with a symbol like this one: a reference line, an arrow to the joint, and a shape that says what kind of weld goes there. The small flag at the bend has one meaning. Field weld. It tells the fabricator that this joint gets welded where it stands, on site, not back at the shop. Most of what we do carries that flag.

What to Expect

  1. Call or text. Say what broke or what you need made, where it is, and whether it can move. A photo with something in the frame for scale answers half the questions.
  2. A straight answer. Whether it is a rig job or a shop job, what it will take, and when.
  3. The rig comes to it, or it comes to the shop. Equipment, piping and structures get welded where they stand. Parts and batches get made on the bench.
  4. The weld. Old weld out, joint prepped, welded, cleaned up, and the swarf swept before we leave.

Four marks, one line.

Flag
Field weld. Made on site, where the piece is installed.
Triangle
Fillet weld. The everyday joint where two pieces meet at an angle.
Circle
Weld all around. The whole way round the joint, no gaps.

Do you come to the job?

Yes. Mobile and onsite work is the first thing on our list. The rig carries the welder, so equipment repairs, plant work and structural fixes happen where the piece sits. If it is small enough to move and would be better done on the bench, we can bring it back to the shop instead.

What is a field weld?

A weld made on site, where the piece is installed, instead of in a fabrication shop. On a drawing it is marked with a small flag on the weld symbol. Field welds cover repairs to equipment that cannot be moved, connections made after steel is set, and changes to piping and structures inside a working plant.

Do you take shop work as well?

Yes. Shop fabrication and production runs are the other half of the business: frames, brackets, bent rail, one off parts and batches made to a drawing or a sample. Bring the part, the sketch or the broken original, and we will tell you what it takes to make it.

How do I get a quote for a repair?

Call or text (262) 470-7035 and send a photo of the break with something in the frame for scale. Say where it is and whether it can move. Most repair quotes come down to three things: the metal, the access, and how much of the old weld has to come out first.

Where is RND Welding based?
